![]() Large numbers of these moths appeared on our cruise ship and provided food for three Willow Warblers and one Sedge Warbler. The Silver Y (Autographa gamma) is named for the marking on its wings, which looks like the latin letter "Y" or the Greek letter gamma. It is a medium sized migratory moth, resident in parts of North Africa and the Mediterranean, migrating as far north as Greenland. The Silver Y flies both during the day and at night, and can often be seen feeding from flowers around dusk. Nikon P510. Reference: Wikipedia contributors. (2018, June 19). Silver Y.
