Vermilion Flycatcher (Pyrocephalus rubinus blatteus) 26 January 2011, Crooked Tree Village, Belize District, Belize.


Here is the adult male. Same details as previous. These birds were often quite tame around the village, perching low and in the open. They made irresistible photo subjects. In this image, I like the way the base of the tarsus shows through the translucent belly feathers.

This species has one of the most misspelled English bird names in North America, probably second only to Steller's Jay.
